TVCC sponsors new member Rachel Divers following 170 mile charity ride

Posted on Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

Rachel Divers from Consett who works at Newcastle Racecourse as Commercial Manager embarked upon a 181 mile Peddle and Paddle Challenge as part of Northern Racings Charity Challenge to raise money for Help the Hospices.

Day 1 – Uttoxeter Racecourse to Hereford Racecourse– 91 Miles Cycling

Day 2 – Hereford Racecourse to Gloucester – 40 Miles Cycling and 10 Miles Kayaking

Day 3 – Gloucester to Chepstow Racecourse – 40 Miles Cycling

Rachel says that she turned to Mike Hodgson for help. Mike became a mentor for Rachel and helped her prepare for the ride. Tyne Valley Cycle Club helped support Rachel and the charity by donating a bike for Rachel to train and do the challenge on, along with clothing for the ride.

Rachel says, without the help of Mike and the club I don’t know how I would have got through the ride. Mike gave me excellent advice and support and without his help I don’t think I would have been prepared or got through the ride. It was a hard three days of mostly uphill cycling and im overjoyed to have completed it. It was one of the hardest most challenging events I have ever had to take part in. I’m glad I completed it and will be eternally grateful to Mike and the club for their help in my achievement.

Rachel has now joined TVCC and hopes to join club rides when work permits.

In recognition of Rachel’s achievement club members agreed at the recent meeting to make a donation to Help the Hospices and Rachel has now raised over £800 towards her £2000 target.

Rachel Sets Off.
