North Pennine Sportive May Update

Posted on Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

The  first TVCC sportive event has been generating a huge amount of interest from local riders, not least because of the opportunity to ride in the glorious and challenging surroundings of the North Pennines, when most of our riding tends to be concentrated further north in lowland Northumberland. In fact many riders in the excellent Derwentside CC Reliabilty Ride last month commented that the countryside around Derwent Reservoir and in the Wear Valley was far more dramatic than the more familiar scenery of North Northumberland.

Until the last week or two the level of interest has not been converting to entries. Perhaps the proximity to the established Cyclone event, one week later, has put some riders off, although a number of those who are riding see the North Pennine as a great opportunity for a final training ride: the Cyclone will be a doddle after this one!

However, May has seen a flurry of activity and with many more firm commitments of intent, we will see a decent entry list on the day. It will  also  be bolstered by some entrants who are also due to ride the Round the Reservoir Premier Calendar Race on Sunday  and a number of family riders  planning to enjoy their own, more leisurely circuit of the Reservoir.

The future of the event certainly seems secure as there has been a deal of interest from prospective sponsors. An announcement on this front is expected soon!
